    Description

Are you a teacher or do you work in education?  Do you wish to master the basics of Excel?  Have you only found courses on Excel aimed at people in business rather than education?  If so, this is the course for you.  The course will enable you to develop the following spreadsheet skills:

    • Set up a page or spreadsheet, including adding a header, so that it is suitable for printing out.

    • Enter and format data, so the presentation is clear and looks professional.

    • Use functions in order to summarise data and make calculations.

    • Copy and paste or move around data and formulas in order to save duplicating work.

    • Use conditional formatting to highlight specific data.

    • Use lookup tables to assign grades to marks, for example.

    • Develop strategies to ensure that formulas are correct, by making changes and checking results, especially after copying formulas from one place to another within a spreadsheet.

The course is presented through a series of projects, progressing in complexity, to produce the kinds of spreadsheets that a teacher or other educator should find useful.  The ideas can easily be adapted or individualised.  The projects are the following:

    • Create a weekly planner.

    • Create a timetable.

    • Set up a register.

    • Use the names from the register to produce a tick list and a seating plan.

    • Use the names from the register to produce a mark book.

    Who this course is for:

    • Any teacher who has little or no previous knowledge of using Excel
    • Intermediate users who wish to refresh or build on their knowledge
    • Anybody in the world of education who has only found Excel courses aimed at businesses

    Instructor's Courses
My name is Justin, and I have been a teacher for nearly 30 years, working in schools both in the UK and internationally.  Over this time I have developed IT and computing skills in order to aid with administration, in particular data management, exams administration and timetabling.  I often find that my colleagues ask me for help with spreadsheets and data management, so I decided to put my expertise to use by producing my first online course.
Students take courses primarily to improve job-related skills. Some courses generate credit toward technical certification. Udemy has made a special effort to attract corporate trainers seeking to create coursework for employees of their company.
