    Description

If you are new to the field of manufacturing or quality engineering and management, and are looking for an introduction to the structured problem-solving method referred to as "8D", then this may be the class for you.

The 8D's, or Disciplines, is a universal problem solving method popularized by the Ford Motor Company in the 1980's for use by their product and manufacturing engineers. Too often, manufacturing problems and product defects are assigned simplistic causes like "operator error" or "lack of training". And more often than not, these simplistic explanations are actually symptoms of the true root cause of the problem, and not causes themselves.

So if you are ready to move past surface level problem solving, the 8D Problem Solving method, which has been adopted as the standard by thousands of companies across numerous industries, may be what your looking for. 8D is a logical and teachable problem-solving tool. And this course, "Root Cause Analysis: A Leader's Guide to Problem Solving" is an excellent stepping stone into this world of structured problem solving.

The 8 Disciplines, or step through this method are:

    1. Form a team.

    2. Describe the problem.

    3. Define and verify the root causes.

    4. Implement short term corrective actions (containment).

    5. Implement long-term, permanent corrective actions.

    6. Verify the effectiveness of the actions taken.

    7. Describe steps to prevent recurrence.

    8. Recognize the accomplishment's of the team.

For each of these disciplines, we will explain the key concepts and approaches typically taken. You will also receive downloadable 8D templates that you can use and adapt for your organization's purposes, and a case study for you to read and use to practice some of the major root cause analysis techniques.

As mentioned in the introductory video to this course, this is NOT intended to be a comprehensive course. But instead, this is an opportunity to spend a lunch break or evening learning the basic, yet critical principles of this popular problem-solving method.

So if you are looking to advance your problem-solving skills and begin addresses the true root causes of your manufacturing defects, then sign up!! This course will surely point you in the right direction. SEE YOU IN CLASS!!
