Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms may begin within a month of the event, but sometimes the person has no symptoms for several years after the event. These symptoms cause serious problems in social or work environment and relationships. It also interferes with a person's ability to perform daily tasks.
In general, PTSD symptoms are classified under four groups: disturbing memories, avoidance, negative changes in thinking and mood, and changes in physical and emotional reactions. These symptoms change over time and vary from person to person.
