Backing up your photos is absolutely critical, and here are some critical concepts to consider.
As you work in Lightroom and Photoshop the files on your main working drive change, and it is up to you to mirror these changes to your backup locations.
Knowing where your catalog is located on your drive is important so that you know where to create the backup copy. From there you can set the schedule for how often you want Lightroom to create the backup copy of the catalog.
Here are some important tips to save you some frustration down the road.
If your entire system is backed up every day then you are in a great place, and you may not need to backup your catalog as often using Lightroom’s own catalog backup.
If you encounter a corrupt catalog your first option is to repair it, but if that fails you can always restore from a backup copy.
