Instructor's CoursesLaura is an English illustrator and paper artist based in Scotland. Her distinctive way of working, which involves a simple pair of scissors and a lot of layers of paper, developed in her time at art school and since then she’s been honing in her skills and seeing where paper will take her next. Through making bold images that focus on colour, scale and shape she has worked on a whole host of projects with writers, musicians, paper makers, dancers, animators, and magicians, with particular clients including the V&A Museum and Puffin Books.
Characters play a big role in her work, often exploring people and places, and when she's not working on client led projects or bespoke artworks, she is thinking up new ideas for children's books, pairing her own writing with her vibrant illustration style. Working with paper allows an audience to feel drawn into a piece, with layers and shadows that almost seem to make an image jump off the page.
She lives in sunny Glasgow with her husband David, working in a little studio in a beautiful old building which used to be a fish market in the 70s (which thankfully, no longer smells of fish). Occasionally she can be found listening to unpopular Abba songs or trying too hard at fancy dress parties.
