Do you ever experience the fear of missing out, also known as FOMO? If you do, you’re not alone. With so much going on in the world, FOMO is a major part of modern life, and the workplace is no exception. As the hybrid work environment becomes a new norm, and as some employees work in the office while others work virtually from home, it’s important to learn how to identify and manage your FOMO so it doesn't hold you back.

In this course, Patrick McGinnis—the originator of the term FOMO—walks you through this complicated social experience. Patrick outlines the nature of FOMO and then gives you tips on how to manage it. Don’t let FOMO hold you back at work, especially in the hybrid work environment. You, too, can overcome your fear. McGinnis is an international venture capitalist and the author of Fear of Missing Out: Practical Decision-Making in a World of Overwhelming Choice and The 10% Entrepreneur: Live Your Startup Dream Without Quitting Your Day Job. Patrick coined the term FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), as well as the related term FOBO (Fear of a Better Option) in a 2004 article in the student newspaper of Harvard Business School. He has been featured in The New York Times, Politico, The Financial Times, The Guardian, and Inc, and gave a popular 2019 TED Talk on FOBO and decision-making. Originally from Maine, he has visited 103 countries and now lives in NYC. As a 10% Entrepreneur, Patrick has built a diverse portfolio of investments outside of his day job.
