  • Description

Build a robot, Code it and Design Mobile UI for controlling it

    What You'll Learn?

    • Demonstrate knowledge of the various parts that make up a robotic system by identifying the tools and components used in building one
    • Assemble two versions of a differential mobile robot from scratch
    • Understand and explain the basic concepts of programming using block-based and text-based programming
    • Identify, describe the working principles and program the common sensors usually installed on mobile robots
    • Explain the basic communication technologies like InfraRed and Bluetooth used in mobile robotics
    • Program IR sensor and Bluetooth module for remote control of the robot
    • Design simple mobile UI interfaces for the robot control using MIT’s AppInvetor

    Who is this for?

  • Kids from third grade and older
  • Adults who are curious about robots and interested in building one
  • What You Need to Know?

  • No robotics or programming experience needed. You'll learn everything you need to know.
  • To follow along with the robot assembly, you'll need the Mingo Robot Kit and the corresponding apps, Gblox Desktop and Gblox Mobile
  • More details

    Description

This is an introductory course to the world of Robotics. In this course, the basic concepts of Robotics are taught to the learner. These concepts include but are not limited to Robot anatomy, Degree of Freedom, Robot Joints, Differential Robot Control, Bluetooth Communication Protocol, IR Communication Protocol and Mobile App Design using MIT App Inventor.

Although it is an introductory course, the curriculum has been designed to be progressive to help learners get comfortable with robotics and programming even without any experience. An easier and more friendly coding method, graphical programming, is employed at the initial stages. However, as the learners advance, they are introduced to text-based programming where they learn to program the robot using C++.

    Projects

The following are projects that can be done using Mingo:

    • Robot Assembly

    • Precise Line Following

    • Obstacle Avoidance

    • Light Sense Following

    • Light Sense Avoidance

    • Pick, move and place objects

    • IR Remote Control

    • Mobile App Design for Robot Control

    • Bluetooth-based wireless control using the Mobile App

    Goal

To spark enough interest in learners and equip them with ample knowledge, engineering skills and confidence to venture into Robotics research.

    Recommended Materials

All the required materials are provided with the kit except for Batteries. The recommended battery specification is:

    • 9V Rechargeable Battery

    Tools

All tools needed for Mingo’s configuration are provided with the kit.

    Who this course is for:

    • Kids from third grade and older
    • Adults who are curious about robots and interested in building one
