Professor Smith founded Long Leaf Learning in 2022 to underpin success in leadership, grant capture and personal income for professionals, academics and students. He has personally been awarded over $3.5 million in funding in his career spanning 24 years.  He has an extensive international network and has collaborated with individuals from across the UK, the USA, as well as Europe, South America and also in Asia and India.His courses draw upon his substantial experience in being part of grant funding panels, as well as leading and chairing meetings, fellowship panels, advisory boards, and conferences. He sits on and chairs six scientific, government and charitable funding panels, and regularly reviews grant applications for 26 different funders worldwide, including UK Research & Innovation panels, NIH, the Academy of Medical Sciences and others. He has personally coached early career academic grant writers to secure major government funding awards in both the UK and USA.Together with his undergraduate (BSc) and Postgraduate (PhD) degrees Professor Smith also holds a postgraduate teaching qualification.
