About Instructor

After his compositional debut at nine years old, earning degrees in music education and composition from Whitworth University, and spending a number of years as a composer for theater, Marc got down to business with his first true love, the synthesizer.

Marc's vintage synthesizer demonstration and education channel on YouTube, Automatic Gainsay, is surprisingly popular (with 8.5 million views to date). In addition to educating millions worldwide about synthesizers and synthesis, it has led to Marc's being asked by major synthesizer companies (Arturia, Korg, Dave Smith Instruments, Analogue Solutions, Pittsburgh Modular, Moog Music) to demonstrate their new analog releases.

For five years, Marc worked at the Bob Moog Foundation as its Archive and Education Specialist. He served the Foundation in a wide variety of ways, including being co-author of its curriculum, "Dr. Bob's SoundSchool," and stewarding its substantial Bob-Moog-related archives.

Marc has recently speaking in a series of lectures regarding the history of synthesis called Authorship of Sound. The lectures are the result of 31 years of research, and portray the development of the synthesizer by integrating the histories of music, technological development, and synthesis. These educational and entertaining presentations have been made at Knobcon in Chicago, at the Electro-Music Festival in Asheville, at The History Center in Ithaca, and at SOS Magazine's SynthFest in Sheffield, UK.

We are honored to have Marc as one our trainers!
