Layli Miller-Muro is a social impact consultant, advisor, trainer, and keynote speaker. She has over 25 years of experience as a corporate attorney for one of the top law firms in the world (Arnold & Porter), a government attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, and as a human rights advocate for one of the most influential non-profit organizations in the U.S. She is currently a consultant and advisor helping organizations with their ESG and social impact efforts. Layli founded and served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Tahirih Justice Center for over 20 years. Tahirih is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting immigrant women, girls, and other survivors from human rights abuses. Since 2001, she led the organization in its service to over 31,000 women and girls, growing it from a staff of 6 to over 100, and expanding its offices to San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta, and Baltimore in addition to the Washington, DC area with over $24M in total revenue. In recognition of its sound management and innovative programs, under Layli’s leadership, Tahirih won the Washington Post Award for Management Excellence and its innovative use of pro bono attorneys to quintuple its resources was featured in the Stanford Social Innovation Review. Layli was included in Goldman Sachs's inaugural list of the Top 100 Most Innovative Entrepreneurs and named by Newsweek Magazine as one of the 150 Most Fearless Women in the World.She has appeared in numerous news outlets including CNN, Fox News, NPR, PBS, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. She is a frequent lecturer and has given speeches at the United Nations; Women of the World Summit; TEDx; and other venues including academic, corporate, and community settings.Layli graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Agnes Scott College; earned her J.D. and M.A. (in International Relations) from American University; was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Northern Illinois University, and has received Executive Education Certificates in Non-profit Management from Harvard University and Stanford University. She holds a certificate in ESG and Sustainable Capitalism from Berkeley Law School.
