About Instructor
Hi I am Cynologist Bart de Gols. I am the founder of the Innovative Sport Dog Community and the CEO of Tactical K9 Solutions. I want to welcome you to this Udemy Course From Tyrant to Teacher, Foundation of Animal Behavior, were I will teach you the science based fundamental knowledge of animal behavior and dog training. Over the 30 years that I have been working and Training with Dogs I have studied and I have tried almost every method and training system out there. I found good things in all of them but also flaws. However they had one crucial thing in common and that is that there was no real relationship between the dog and myself. The dog either worked out of avoidance of a correction or he worked because I had something to offer him, like food or toys. His motivation was to work for the things I had and NOT to work for me. By studying the new findings on how wolf packs are organized and work together I came to realize that the strongest bond wolves and other wild Canine packs have, is the relationships they have with each other, and that they are based upon Respect for the Parents, Respect for the siblings, Trust in the Parents and Trust and that when observed in the wild those wolves also have a lot of “Fun” together. These wolves don’t work for a ball all a Frisbee. They work together because their success in life is directly dependent on it. As a team their changes of survival increase dramatically. This means they work together to find food, shelter etc. Nothing in their life is free. Their success in working together is strongly contributed by the clarity in communication they have between each other and the trust in that communication and the respect toward each individual member, even when there are situations of conflict. Even fights have rules, rules that are respected by each pack member. As an outcome of my findings I developed not a training method or system but rather a “life Style” in how to build a relationship with dogs, especially working dogs, in such a way wolves would do in the wild, with the goal to build a motivation in working WITH me rather then for me because I had something tangible to offer or working for me out of avoidance of a correction. It is in this “Relationship Building Life Style” I will teach you many theories about how animal learn and training techniques that will contribute to achieve the ultimate goal, a relationship in where the dog is fully engaged with you and want to work with you because he wants to, not because you ask him to.When observed in the wild wolves play games, so do dogs when they play with each other. These games of rules. In this video series I will teach you how to better interact with your dog during play time. In the wild wolf cubs are taught certain wanted pack behaviors, so it is important that we will teach our dogs the behavior we want in our pack in a way he understands. Just beating it him to him won’t work.In the wild wolf cubs are taught how cope with certain environmental stressors, they do that via a concept we now know as modeling. In order for us to set our dogs up for success in different environment it is important that we understand the power of observational learning and modeling and how it can affect our dogs and our dog’s learning. In the wild wolf cubs are taught social rules in the pack, they do that via a clear communication system. In this video series we will study the difference between canine and human communication and how we can change or communication so that we are much clearer to our dogs. Wolf cubs are also taught how to deal with conflict, having rules how to settle differences is extremely important. So it is important for us to understand how that learning happens so that we can be successful in recognizing when our dogs are stressed and prevent conflict from happening.
