About Instructor

The instructor obtained an MSc degree in Chemistry with Biochemistry and continued with a PhD in physical biochemistry investigating ion channel proteins with electrophysiology and biochemical techniques. After the PhD the instructor undertook postdoctoral research in the area of structure and function of viral transmembrane proteins. The research continued with an emphasis of combining computer simulation and experimental techniques to study other types of transmembrane proteins. Later the instructor was involved in designing electrochemical-based biosensors to detect pathogen DNA. Currently the instructor works as a Principal Lecturer at university teaching biochemistry to students of various subjects. Besides lectures, the work involves small group tutoring, running of laboratory- and computer practicals as well as setting and marking assessments. In addition the instructor takes part in academic administration at his department, involving mentoring colleagues, reviewing ethics applications or organising timetables for courses. The instructor has co-authored more than 40 publications, reviewed research grants, research publications and is a member of journal editorial boards.
