I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and speaker who strives to bring the science of psychology to life. I give talks across the United States about emotional health, wellness, stress, and motivation-- and the science behind our relationships in the age of social media. I also do consulting work with writers who are looking to refine their mental-health related storylines for accuracy and sensitivity across novels, television, and film. I'm the author of three books, including the newly released “Detox Your Thoughts” and the Publisher's Weekly Best-Seller "Psychology," and am the long-time voice behind the mental health advice column and live chat Baggage Check in the Washington Post. I blog for Psychology Today (18 million+ views of my pieces and counting!) and serve on the faculty of Georgetown University, where in 2020 I won a national teaching award given by a division of the American Psychological Association. I have a part-time clinical private practice outside of Washington, DC. and appear weekly in various national media.
