About Hebrew LanguageLearn More

Hebrew is an ancient Semitic language. The earliest Hebrew texts date from the second millennium BC, and evidence shows that the Israelite tribes that invaded Canaan spoke Hebrew. It is likely that the language was common until the fall of Jerusalem in 587 BC. When the Jews were exiled, Hebrew disappeared as a spoken language, although it still survives as a written language for Jewish prayers and scriptures. During the Second Temple period, Hebrew was most likely used only for liberal purposes. Parts of the Hebrew Bible were written in Hebrew.
