Description
Production wiz Josh Bess delivers an in-depth Downtempo Trap production video tutorial series! See and hear how to make your first beat in this trending genre, including sound design, editing, mixing and mastering for a polished, professional sounding track. These videos are designed for beginner producers looking to make their first Downtempo Trap beat. Course extras to create your own music and follow along with this course are included!
A basic understanding of music production in the Live 10 Arrangement View is recommended to get the most out of this course, but you can also apply this info to any DAW, so everyone can learn and benefit from the instruction. To start, Josh welcomes you and shows you how to start your track off with a recorded piano part, perfect for the genre.
Next, you'll learn how to layer an 808 bass sound with the piano part and arrange them for a solid harmonic foundation, and then add kicks, snares and hats to complete the classic trap beat groove. Josh also shows you how to create and add in transitions with a reverse snare sound to make going into the different parts of the song more seamless.
Sound design is next, and you'll discover how to morph the tone of the piano with high pass filter automation, as well as manage your tracks by freezing and flattening them in your DAW. The rest of the videos are all about mixing and mastering, and Josh shows you volume and track leveling basics, using track compression, buss dynamics, frequency spectrum and imaging plug-ins for mastering, automation and more.

Very basic track production for the absolute beginner. About as uninspired as a tutorial can get though. If you're a young gun who just got Ableton and has watched no other tutorials and hasn't produced a single beat yet, then this may get you started.
This has helped me analyze what I'm hearing in hip-hop beats and understand how they are made. Very informative and useful.

To date, this is the only terrible tutorial I've found on this website. The tutorial acts like Abelton is the only DAW you can produce trap in which is ironic considering how terrible this guy is at using Abelton. Watching him right click to duplicate audio files was grating. I'm pretty sure most people could use Audacity quicker than this guy can use Abelton. Aside from that, this tutorial fails at its only objective -it doesn't teach the basics of trap! It teaches you how to pull in loops and clips and erroneously teaches you what an 808 is, but doesn't teach you how to actually create any of this yourself which is the most important part of actually producing something worth listening to! And to top it all off, he calls all of these basic things "arrangement techniques." Pasting a bad snare sample onto the third beat of a measure is as much an "arrangement technique" as putting your car in drive is a "driving technique!"

Quick, easy and informative
...this tutorial is subpar at best. I’m giving all the following 5-stars because Groove3, its interface and the quality of tutorials are continually fantastic and of a very high caliber. This tutorial, however, looks (and it taught by) someone that needs to find a home on YouTube.
