  • Description

In this Groove3 video tutorial series, DAW pro Gary Hiebner delivers an in-depth collection of video tutorials on how to prepare and mix a song in Cubase 10. Learn the important basics as well as more advanced topics when getting ready to mix your next masterpiece!

First, Gary welcomes you and goes over what will be covered in the series, and then starts at the beginning, showing you how to prepare for mixing with steps like packing your tracks into folders for an easier mixing workflow, and assigning colors to your tracks for simple visual recognition.

Next, learn how to use the Marker Track and Arranger Track to map out your song's arrangement and quickly navigate between the different sections while mixing, as well as how to clean up any issues your audio may have by using Strip Silence.

You'll then get detailed coverage of the Mix Console, using Group Channels, Track Divider, Gain Staging and VU Metering pointers and more. Gary then starts to mix the tracks, and you'll see common practices for processing Drums, Bass, Guitars, and Vocals, including using Sidechain Compression, reverb, effects and more.

Wrapping it all up, discover how to write and record Automation, use Quick Controls, VCA Faders, and create submixes within your main mix to bring it all together. Once the mix is done, you'll learn how to export your finished mix for all the world to hear.

See the individual tutorial descriptions for more info. If you’re new to Cubase 10, or just want some mixing tips and ideas, watch “Cubase 10: Mixing Explained®” today!

This course gives a good overview of how Cubase works on a technical level to mix tracks. There are some things which can be done easier though. To get the equalizer before the sends, Gary just starts to add the same EQ settings on an eq insert instead on the channel strip, which can easily be flipped before the inserts in the signal chain. Another area Gary misses is gainstaging using the pre-gain knobs. Apart from that, the final mix of Gary sounds to my ears a little flat and possibly overcompressed. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the videos.

I have read a number of articles on mixing, and explored a number of courses, but this is the best one for a bottoms up explanation. Using the built-in effects makes it accessible to everyone, and while I have seen a lot of different approaches to mixing, this is an excellent foundation. I share the criticism of another reviewer that gain setting should be done using the PreGain knob rather than the faders, as I have seen done in other courses. This avoids the problem of making adjustments lower down on the fader scale, where small moves have a bigger effect. It might have been more effective if the included audio was more poorly recorded, so that we could see more examples of how to respond. Other than that, I found this course extremely helpful and strongly recommend it.

My first shot at mixing and this video was extremely helpful. Everything turned out sounding great for me and I learned a ton.

Do not gain stage using faders, do it using the pre-gain knob. Gary, you should have known that !

I am new to mixing, and found this very useful, and easy to follow. A lot of great info that I will be putting into place in my own mixes.

    Easy to follow. Lekker

The course really gives you a comprehensive overview of the whole mixing process and enables you to start mixing your own songs and mastering as well. Content is very clear and straigth to the point as possible. I definetely recommand it!

An excellent course covering all the mixing functions in the program with and awful lot of good advice and handy tips.

A very step by Step guide forma mixing. You can mix you tracks following the order of the lessons.
