If your tracks are feeling a bit sterile, and you're looking for an easy way to infuse some character and life into your sounds, then Native Instruments' CRUSH PACK is an excellent choice. In this CRUSH PACK tutorial, recording wiz Gary Hiebner will teach you everything you need to know in order to make this effects pack work for you in musically creative ways. Whether it's just a subtle touch of saturation or full-on bit-crushing destruction, you'll learn how to navigate the parameters of these powerful plugins like a pro in no time! These videos are for new CRUSH PACK users.

After familiarizing you with the interface and layout of the plugin, Gary begins by exploring the parameters of the distortion-based Dirt effect. Along with explaining the dual distortion modes, he also provides examples of the plug in action on various sources, including drums, bass, and synths. Then it's on to the Bite effect, and Gary breaks down the bit-crushing and downsampling features with several more examples, such as a retro beat, a synth, and a bus channel.

Next, explore the Freak effect and its different modes: Radio, Oscillator, and Sidechain, each with their own set of parameters. Learn how to create modulation and saturation on a Rhodes track, create robotic voices with frequency shifting and ring modulation, and dial in a classic AM radio filter effect!

For the remainder of the course, you'll learn how to make use of the Sidechain mode in the Freak effect to transform and modulate audio, and you'll finish up by following along as Gary combines all three effects into one mix, complete with a before-and-after comparison!

Gary does a great job introducing the Crush Pack. I guess quite a few people with Komplete Now subscriptions will be watching this now since the pack was recently added into the Komplete Now suite. Very easy to follow and gives some good ideas for practical use. The NI manual is also really short for these plug-ins, so I'd recommend having that open too while watching as it's not going to take up too much extra brain power. Cheers, Gary!
