    Description

Have you ever wanted to draw portraits of your friends and family? Well this is the course for you!

In this beginner's course we walk you through a simple four-step approach to drawing the face from three different angles. First we tackle drawing a portrait from the side view. Next we focus on the front view. Then finally we apply all the techniques we've learned to craft a portrait from the 3/4 view!

In each section we begin with an overview video in which I explain how the four step process can be applied to that particular view. Then we dive right in by creating a drawing together.

    What are the four steps?

    1) Study the reference.

    2) Use simple shapes to compose the face.

    3) Use simple techniques and angles to measure the proportions of your face layout for accurate placement of features.

    4) Use contour lines to add details and nuance to your drawing to capture the likeness of your reference.

This is an interactive course so you'll be drawing right along with me! Follow along at your own pace, pause, and rewind to maximize your learning!

I hold a BA degree in Digital Arts and Sciences from the University of Florida and consider myself a lifelong learner.  I have worked as a freelance artist and illustrator for over 20 years creating caricatures, portraits, comic books, and character designs for clients of all ages.   I'll say this upfront, I don't really believe in talent.  I believe in "cultivated aptitude".   No one should be made to feel they either have natural artistic "talent" or not.  We all have aptitudes, things we are naturally drawn to or interested in.  The difference between success and failure is the work put into cultivating that aptitude.  If you like to draw, paint, or are fascinated by animation, now's the time to dive in!  My classes give you the opportunity to cultivate your artistic side and refine basic skills that will help you embark on a lifelong journey of learning to bring your creative visions to life.Since I could pick up a pencil I have loved to draw.  I've spent my life refining my skills and sharing my gift with the world.  I hope you will join me so we can have fun cultivating your passion for art together.
