  • Description

An introductory course to programming in MATLAB to design experiments and analyse data for natural sciences students

    What You'll Learn?

    • You'll learn the basics of coding in MATLAB, including the set up of the work environment, terminology, indexing, basic maths, functions, scripts, data loading
    • You'll learn how to import collected data into MATLAB and how to analyse it
    • Design and run your own experiments
    • Store and visualise data in the acceptable format for your dissertation or published work

    Who is this for?

  • Undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate Neuroscience and Psychology students or healthcare professionals interested in learning how to code in MATLAB to run experiments or to analyse data
  • What You Need to Know?

  • No coding experience is needed, some experience of working with Excel or SPSS would be beneficial, you need to download MATLAB software on your computer as well as Psychtoolbox
  • More details

    Description

This course covers the basics of programming in MATLAB. You'll get familiar with the MATLAB set up and environment, you'll understand how to use variables, functions, logical operators and other functions to write your own scripts. You'll also learn how to load, store, inport and analyse data in MATLAB and visualise it (graphs, tables etc) so these are ready for you to use in your write up.

    • You will learn fundamental computer programming concepts such as variables, flow control statements, logical operators, functions and many others.

    • You will learn about various data types and how to handle them in MATLAB.

    • You will learn how to work with matrices.

    • You will learn about uploading and saving data.

    Who should take this course?

Current neuroscience or psychology students struggling with programming classes.

Graduate students who want to work in a brain sciences lab and have zero coding experience.

Anyone who wants to study a degree in neuroscience or psychology at a graduate level.

    Who are your instructors?

We’re Adriana and Ana, postgraduate neuroscience students at the university in London, UK. We’re working on our final-year dissertations and interning in decision-making and visual labs.

When we started our Master’s course in Clinical, Social and Cognitive Neuroscience, we had no idea that programming is pretty much essential in neuroscience research.

We had zero coding experience and we hadn’t learned much in class.

After reading textbook after textbook, watching all YouTube videos out there and asking for help from experienced programmers, we finally learned how to code experiments in MatLab and want you to be able to do the same!

    Who this course is for:

    • Undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate Neuroscience and Psychology students or healthcare professionals interested in learning how to code in MATLAB to run experiments or to analyse data

Hey, I'm Ana, I studied MSc Clinical, Social and Cognitive Neuroscience at City, University of London and completed my Bsc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Westminster in London, UK. I found it challenging to learn coding in MATLAB with zero programming experience in a short time while completing my other modules that's why I want to share with you everything that I learnt throughout my studies. I designed an introductory MATLAB course that's perfect for complete beginners who want to understand the basics of working in MATLAB to design experiments and analyse data for neuroscience and psychology research.
Students take courses primarily to improve job-related skills. Some courses generate credit toward technical certification. Udemy has made a special effort to attract corporate trainers seeking to create coursework for employees of their company.
