  • Description

Want to see the world without hitting pause on your career? Consider embracing the life of a digital nomad. Instructor Rowena Hennigan—a speaker, professor, and globally recognized expert in remote work—has successfully mixed travel and work since 2007. In this course, she lays out the key benefits and challenges of this lifestyle, as well as what you need to know before embarking on your first adventure as a digital nomad.

Drawing from her own considerable professional and practical experience, Rowena steps through the basics of digital nomadism. She covers the increasing number of destinations that offer digital nomad visas; where you can travel based on your passport; how to navigate work status and compliance; and how to determine whether this untethered lifestyle would actually suit you. And if you’re ready to make the switch, she details how to pick the right destination, tap into a community, and lessen the environmental impact of your travels.

Hi! I’m Rowena, founder @RoRemote, Remote Work Expert, University Lecturer, Academic and a Global Thought Leader in Remote Work and Digital Nomadism, including the LI learning course: https://www.linkedin.com/learning/becoming-a-digital-nomad I have been remote working since 2007, now living in Spain with my location-independent family, which means we travel when we can! My career spans almost 25 years of professional industry experience and I have an extensive range of skills. I started RoRemote - my Remote Skills training and consultancy company - in 2017, before the pandemic. I had already seen the market need and began to create and co-author academic courses at TU Dublin on Remote Work Skills. Why such a passion for Remote Work and worker wellbeing? In 2015 my daughter developed severe childhood asthma, so bad that we moved from Dublin, Ireland, to Zaragoza, Spain, to improve her health and also enhance our overall lifestyle as a family. Remote Work enabled that move. Hence my passion for its socioeconomic influence, the power of global mobility and the flexibility it offers. However, I advocate for the need to embrace and use that flexibility wisely with a focus on individual worker wellbeing and work-life-integration: “Remote work has enabled me to live in many countries, travel extensively and find life-work balance. I relish in being an advocate and a leader on the education and skills needed for effective remote work practices ” I take great pride in my projects, workshops and speaking engagements that I deliver, but also in the way I deliver them - the feedback I receive, the trust I build with clients, and the skills enhancement. I also look to constantly improve, having recently up-skilled in Mental Health awareness, advocacy and competencies. I have completed 3 Mental Health training courses; MHFA, i-act for Managers & See Change for Managers. I recently completed a workshop on Unconscious Bias & Inclusive Work Environment.
