Description
Ever wanted to bring your sketches to life? It’s surprisingly easy to turn a sketch into an animated illustration in After Effects using one simple tool!

In this class, we will be turning a sketch into an animated illustration using the pen tool and masks in After Effects. The pen tool can be used to create illustrations. Masks can be used to cover selected parts and then animated to reveal what’s underneath. Together you can use the pen tool along with masks to create interesting transitions that can add some fun movement to any illustration!
During this class, you’ll learn how to:
- Scan your sketches
- Create a digital illustration of your sketch using the pen tool in Adobe After Effects
- Add some life to your design with animated effects and textures
- Make a mask to reveal what’s inside your object with a custom transition
- Render your final animation to share
This class is great for beginners to get started in After Effects and digital illustration, as well as intermediate users who are looking for fun new ways to explore the animation process.

I'm so glad you're here! In case you don't know me, I'm an artist, teacher, & cat mom based in Virginia.
ABOUT ME
I've been making art since I was tiny. It makes me happy, so I just decided not to stop! I not only teach to help others explore their creative side, but I also sell products online and work with really cool clients on all kinds of fun art things. I definitely consider myself a generalist in that I enjoy any and all types of art.
I began my creative business in February 2020, perfect timing, right? Since then, I've slowly been creating more classes on topics I love like animation and illustration. I also try to be honest with my own struggles by sharing vlogs and behind-the-scenes videos on my Youtube and Instagram. It's been a crazy couple of years, but I'm so grateful you're here with me! Your support means the world.
MY MISSION
I was very fortunate to be able to attend college for art and was able to get my BFA in creative technologies in 2019. While I learned a lot of technical skills, I didn't feel like I had the opportunity to find myself as an artist. I know it's a lifelong pursuit to find your creative voice, but I had to deal with a lot of negativity from those in places of authority while I was in college.
It's taken me the past couple of years to get to where I am now and while it's scary to fight the opinions I still have in my head from college, I'm very happy to be able to share my journey with other artists who had similar experiences. Also to just let other creatives know that we all have very different paths to get to where we are today and that's wonderful!
All that to say, I hope that I can bring you some joy while you learn and grow. Let's go create something fun together. No pressure or negativity is needed!
