About App Inventor 2Learn More

MIT App Inventor is an integrated web application development environment originally provided by Google and now maintained by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This platform allows computer programming newcomers to create applications (apps) for two operating systems (OS): Android and iOS, which is in final beta testing as of January 20, 2023. It is free and open source software released under a dual license: the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license and the Apache 2.0 license for the source code. It uses a graphical user interface (GUI) very similar to the Scratch and StarLogo programming languages that allows users to create a program by dragging and dropping visual objects that can be tested on Android and iOS devices and run as an app. Android is made. It uses a companion app that allows live testing and debugging. In creating App Inventor, Google drew on significant prior research in educational computing and work done at Google in online development environments. App Inventor and other projects are based on constructivist learning theories that emphasize that programming can be a means of engaging powerful ideas through active learning.
